Railway Play is a train inspired exhibit space that will transport young visitors to the 1876 World’s Fair via the Pennsylvania Railroad! Trains have forever been a passion for young children. Now, children of all ages and abilities will be able to engage in cooperative play while using their imaginations onboard our Railway Play exhibit. Railway Play is sponsored by the 25th Century Foundation and is the first new permanent exhibit at the Museum since first moving to Memorial Hall.
The new exhibit-space spans the entire west side of PTM’s Centennial Exploration gallery which celebrates the history of the 1876 World’s Fair held in Philadelphia. In addition to Railway Play which is more targeted to the Museum’s younger audience, the gallery features an 1889 scale model depicting the Centennial’s landscape and allows the young and young at heart to investigate the accounts of everyday life at the Fair while also discovering the amazing items and inventions revealed during the event including the first telephone, typewriter, root beer and more.
