My Picks of Halloween Fun in Philly

This year Halloween lands on a Wednesday. Many events are schedule for this upcoming weekend. Here are my picks of family friendly Halloween fun! Also, don’t miss the fall festivals and fun at your local Pumpkin Patch HERE.

Halloween Hikes & Hayrides at Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education
On Friday, Oct 26th and Saturday, Oct 27th take a walk through the woods on trails alight with the glow of jack-o-lanterns. Learn the ways of Brown Bat, Mr. Owl and other nocturnal creatures from the talking animals you meet along the path. Hop aboard for hayride, paint a pumpkin, or make s’mores around the campfire. Your kids are guaranteed to have a magical time at this Schuylkill Center favorite. Pre-registration required. $7 Non-members; $5 Members; (Hayride included); $30 max per family.

Boo at the Zoo
This weekend visit the Philadelphia Zoo for the region’s most festive Halloween celebration. Boo at the Zoo features storytelling, games, crafts, live music performances and more. Guests can take their picture in front of a giant pumpkin wall, visit the spooky cemetery, and follow the trail of scarecrows that resemble some popular zoo animals. Guests in costume can also participate in a daily parade throughout parts of the Zoo. Boo at the Zoo is included in Zoo admission and is sure to be fun for all.

Healthy Halloween at Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse
Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse hosts Healthy Halloween presented by Independence Blue Cross on Saturday, October 27th, 10:00am – 12:00pm. Healthy Halloween will feature fun from The Clay Studio’s Claymobile, Fleisher Art Memorial’s ColorWheels, Mr. Halloweenster, Playworks, Balloons by Bonnie, and Zoomdance. Kids 10 and younger and their caregivers are invited to celebrate Halloween in costume with healthy treats, goodie bags, balloon artists, scary storytime, mask making, fun with clay, games and activities, face painting, and fun on the 6 ½ acre Playground and Ann Newman Giant Wooden Slide.

Halloween at Pretzel Park!
On Saturday, Oct 27th Taking place at Pretzel Park, located at the corner of Cotton and Cresson Streets, just off Main Street! From 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., rain or shine! Enjoy Face Painting, Children’s Costume Parade and Contest, Pumpkin Painting, Fall Scene Family Photos & more!

Spooky Saturday on East Passyunk Avenue
Enjoy a double dose of free fall fun with Spooky Saturday and Fall Festival, on Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 11:00am to 4:00pm, on the streets surrounding the Singing Fountain (EPA and Tasker Street). The East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District (EPABID) presents a spooktacular Halloween celebration with fun for children, adults and even fido too! Spooky Saturday festivities include costume contests, trick or treating, pumpkin painting, cider, pet treats, art lessons and temporary tattoos by Alphabet Academy (1720 EPA).

Halloween Street Festival at Plays and Players Theater
On Saturday, Oct 27th from 11a-4p Plays & Players takes over Delancey Place for a FREE outdoor festival to celebrate the new season. Featuring a costume parade, Halloween inspired games, crafts and snacks, a spooky haunted house, resident artist-led workshops for kids, and behind the scenes tours of the beautiful historic theater, this is a day not to be missed.

The 2012 Rittenhouse Row Halloween Celebration and Trick-or-Treat
The Halloween Celebration will be from 10AM to 12PM on Saturday, Oct 27th. The Trick-or-Treating will be from 10Am to 5PM and is free and open to the public. Families will enjoy a children’s costume contest with prizes, a mini brunch buffet and fun Halloween themed activities from Rittenhouse Row member businesses. Please bring a book to donate to The Gift of Life House and remember to grab your map for Trick-or-Treating at Rittenhouse Row member locations.

Northern Liberties Halloween and Fall Festival
Stop by Liberty Lands on Saturday, Oct 27th from 2pm- 5pm for the Northern Liberties Halloween and Fall Festival. Enjoy hayrides, moon bounce, a fire truck, crafts and much more! Be sure to bring the kids in costume.

Spooky Tours at Stenton
On Saturday, Oct 27th from 1p-4p something Spooky has taken over James Logan’s Stenton for Halloween…the exact day Mr. Logan died in 1751! Join us, if you dare, for a Frightfully fun tour exploring the mysteries of Stenton mansion and the Logan family! Though the house has been empty for many years, For One afternoon the old residents will return to visit their beloved stenton…If you make it out of the mansion alive, have fun painting a pumpkin to take home! Light refreshments will also be served. Free, but reservations requested.

Going Batty Halloween Fun at Whole Foods Market – Jenkintown
Celebrate Halloween a few days early on Sunday, Oct 28th at 9am – 1:30p at our annual pre-Halloween Trick-or-Treat and Costume Parade. Since 2012 is the international Year of the Bat, we’ve added some fantastic bat activities to the mix. Learn why these incredible creatures are so important and what we can do to help save them. Be sure to take advantage of the rare opportunity to see bats up close at the Live Bat Encounter show featuring Rob Miles, TV personality and national bat expert, and the amazing Flying Fox, the world’s largest bat!

Harry Potter Weekend and Halloween in Chestnut Hill
All weekend long, it’s all wizards, potions and spells as Chestnut Hill is transformed into Hogsmeade! There’ll be butter beer, mazes, ghost tours, scary stories and fortune telling… even a Saturday afternoon pub crawl and scavenger hunt! All of the restaurants and retailers along Germantown Ave. get into the Harry Potter spirit. The weekend is fun for Potter fans of all ages! Be sure to check out the Quidditch Tournament all day Saturday at Chestnut Hill College.

Halloween Arts Bash at Fairmount Art Center
On Sunday, Oct 28th 3:30p – 5:30pm. Followed by the Fairmount Halloween Parade!
Free fun for all ages! Join us in costume for our 6th annual Halloween Arts Bash!! Tons of (witch) crafty art and music making plus Philly’s best face painting with Peanutbutter, a student art show, tricks or treats, pumpkin painting, and the Call-Me-Cupcake food truck!
