Independence Seaport Museum will offer a day of free boat rentals on April 27 for the Philadelphia Science Festival Explorer Sunday. Visitors receive free boat rentals with regular Museum admission from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The rental fleet consists of single and double kayaks as well as various small rowing boats. The boats can be rented at the Museum’s dock and can be used inside the boat basin adjacent to the Seaport Museum. Single kayaks are $8, double kayaks are $15, large rowboats are $15 and small rowboats are $10. All rentals are per hour and include life jackets and oars or paddles. The boat rental season will continue through October 12.

Kayaks provide a quiet, peaceful experience in the basin and are user-friendly. Rowboats are great for individuals and families who want to spend time on the water, but have limited experience. Large rowboats hold up to four rowers, and small rowboats can hold up to two rowers. The minimum age for boat rentals is 6 years old and all children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All boats must be returned by 8:00 p.m. A driver’s license or photo ID is required for each rental. For more information, visit www.phillyseaport.org/boatrental.
