The high-flying acrobats and tumblers of Cirque Éloize pay tribute to the boomtown legacy of America’s Wild West in their latest show, Saloon. As the railroad expands westward to lands of untold promise, a town grows out of nothing in the middle of the desert. And at the center of that town and its social structure is the saloon — home to a motley assortment of frontier personalities, all with their own tales to tell. In this performance at the Merriam Theater in Philadelphia, the infectious energy of folk music and fiddles set the tone for this acrobatic comedy that sweeps audiences away to a simpler time.
